Control Vol Panel

Use the Control Vol panel to define control volume objects within a model.

Airbag Subpanel

Use the Airbag subpanel to create the control volumes/airbags using a set of components, elements, or contact surfs.
Option Action
name Enter a name for the entity.
card image Select a valid card image. Options depend on the current solver interface.
entity selector Select the elements, sets, or contactsurfs to include in the control volume definition
edit Review the control volume card previewer content.

Reference Geometry Subpanel

Use the Reference Geometry subpanel to define a reference geometry for the nodes of an airbag.

Each reference geometry holds the IDs of the nodes selected as well as their original nodal location. After you create the reference geometry, you can manipulate the original mesh (that is rotate, deform, scale or translate the mesh to simulate airbag folding or other conditions). When you review reference geometry, it displays the original nodal locations at the time the reference geometry was created. (In this way, the reference geometry definition can be used to preserve IMM information for solvers that have these features implemented.) If you delete a node or element that is a member of a control volume, it also deletes the control volume definition.

Some typical applications for a control volume include:
  • Single chamber FE airbag models (define solver specific parameters on the card previewer)
  • Tire models
  • Fuel tank models
