Constraints

Restrict or limit movement in specific regions of the model.

  1. On the Project Tree, open the Analysis Workbench.
  2. Click to expand the desired analysis.
  3. Next to Constraints, click the (Add) button.
  4. Select the desired type of constraint from the context menu.
  5. Set up the chosen constraint according to the following:
    Constraint typeProcess
    Immovable and Slider Supports
    1. In the dialog, select the button to apply to either Faces or Spots.
    2. In the modeling window, select the desired faces/spots.
    Hinge Support In the modeling window, select the desired cylindrical faces.
    Spring Support
    1. In the modeling window, select the desired faces.
    2. In the dialog, select either the Foundation factor or Support total stiffness radio button.
    3. For Foundation factor, select a Common foundation factor from the drop-down menu and specify values and units for X, Y, and Z.
    4. For Support total stiffness, specify values and units for X, Y, and Z.
    Distributed Mass Available for Modal analysis.
    1. In the modeling window, select the desired faces.
    2. Select either the Total Mass or Mass per area radio button.
    3. Specify a value for Total Mass or Mass per area.
  6. Click OK.
    The new constraint appears in the Project Tree.
