Perform a Basic Input and Output Function on an FE Model

Using the Basic IO tab, you can verify that HyperMesh and HyperCrash do not deprecate any model during import and export. The show different report identifies any loss or change of data.

The verification and validation levels include:
  • Two stages of verification.
    • Reference model file with the exported file.
    • Model check report of the reference file and the exported file.
  • Import/export timing and the status.
  • Diff report.
    • Input/output files.
    • Model checker output information OR FE entity counts.
    • Solver results with check runs.
  • Solver Check RUN (IMPORTANT)
    • Exported file solver result comparison with the reference model result, after the solver check run. This checks whether the solver deck is a valid solver deck.
Note: Both runs are with the same solver version.
  1. Click the FE Model tab then click the Basic IO tab.

    Figure 1.
  2. From the File type drop-down menu, select the correct solver for running HyperMesh in the background.
  3. Optional: Activate the Model checker/Entity count option.
Select this option to include the model checker. For solvers that don't support the model checker, the entity count is used for verification.
  4. Select the export profile option.
    Supported file types include:
    • LS-DYNA
    • Radioss(BLOCK)
    • PAM-CRASH 2G
    • Abaqus
    • Nastran
    • Marc
  5. Under Input deck(s), use the file browser icon to select an input file.
    Tip:
    • Click to search for and load additional input files. Select the top level folder to load all files of selected file type.
    • Click in the cell for each file type to activate it. Once the cell is active, click to display the file browser and load only selected files. You can also add multiple files.
    • Click to delete a selected file from the list.
  6. Select an output directory.
  7. Click Import/Export.
If Model checker is activated, Step 1 and Step 2 are performed; if it is not activated, only Step 1.
  8. Click Check Run to perform a solver check run using the reference file and the modified model file (the HyperMesh exported file).
The tool verifies if the exported deck is a solver compatible deck.

From the Check run section, click Diff in the Output column to view the Diff report for Step 1 and to review the check report. Here, the solver is accessed based on the availability of a license (which must be user-arranged).

Tip:
  • The message log file displays the current status of processes in progress. Click Status/Diff to display the respective report. The message log file is a text file and is saved to your output directory.
  • Click Html Report to generate an HTML report of your session information for any number of files run through the process.

Import and Export a File with the Model Checker Activated

  1. Steps 1-5 are same as above.
  2. The modified model file is re-imported into HyperMesh and returns the I/O status.
  3. The model checker output from Steps 1 and 2 are "diffed" (generates a diff report).
  4. For the solver not supporting the model checker, the entity count is used (diff report of the same).
  5. Click Check Run (using the solver).
The solver check run is performed with the reference model file and modified files from step 2 (HyperMesh exported file from step 2)
  6. Click Diff to see solver result diff report.
