Altair HyperLife 2021.2 Release Notes

New Features

Nodal Solution
HyperLife supports nodal evaluation for both Solid and Shell models. Nodal Solution is supported for Stress Life (SN), Strain Life (EN), and Factor of Safety (FOS) modules.
For Solid models, HyperLife nodal solution is evaluated only at the surface nodes. The Grid Point Stress or the Averaged Corner Data stress is projected onto an imaginary plane to obtain plane stress. The input FEA results must contain Averaged Corner Data Stress or Grid Point Stress at a node. Nodal solution for Solid models is not supported for nodes associated with second order elements.
For Shell models, the input FEA results files must contain Averaged Corner Data Stress. Corner Stress output can be at Gauss or Corner location.
Nodal solution for Shell models is not supported for nodes associated with second order elements. Nodal solution is supported for Time Series, Transient, Modal Superposition, Random (Input PSD and FRF stress), and Sine Sweep type of Fatigue loading.
Strain Input
Strain is supported as input in the Strain Life (EN) calculations. An exclusive selection option is available to choose the Result Input in the Strain Life (EN) tool/dialog. With this feature, you can choose query options as Stress or Strain from the input FEA result files. The FEA result files must have Strain as an available query option.
HDF5 File Support
HDF5 result formats (*.h5) are supported as an input file for Stress Life (SN), Strain Life (EN), and Factor of Safety (FOS) modules for both Elemental and Nodal solutions. The supported Fatigue loading includes Time Series, Transient loading, Modal Superposition, Random (Input PSD and FRF stress), and Sine Sweep.
Scaled Result Output - Damage/Life
The Damage and Life results can be scaled/factored by user input scale factors. The Evaluate tool is enhanced for an exclusive Scale Result input options for both Life and Damage. The result browser lists the scaled results as an additional quantity which is available for contour plot.
Import/Export of Fatigue events as XML
The Load Map tool is enhanced to Export and Import HyperLife created Event information as an .xml file. This .xml file is HyperLife native and has file-path locations of Load history files. This is very useful while submitting batch runs referring to load histories from the parent directory without saving them in the working directory.

Enhancements

Auto Upgrade Abaqus ODB for Batch Runs
ODB file is now automatically upgraded in the batch submission which otherwise required a manual upgrade.
Ansys Results Support for Vibration Fatigue
Ansys results file (*.rst) is supported for Vibration Fatigue for input PSD with FRF Stress loading. Only elemental solutions are available currently.
Run at Model Location
The HyperLife Preference dialog is enhanced to indicate Run at the model location and control the result output directory.
Input Non-integer Repeats
The Repeats input in the Load Map tool is enhanced to support non-integer values. You can input repeat in terms of decimals or fractions.
Model Files Removed from Installation Package
To reduce the footprint size, the following tutorial model and demo model files are no longer included in the local installation. You can now find zipped tutorial model files and demo model files on Altair One via the Altair Community, Altair Marketplace, and Altair Connect sites. Altair recommends that you create an Altair One account and use it as your primary portal to access product documentation, a Knowledge Base, and customer support.

Resolved Issues

  • Load Map tool/dialog now lists Modal Superposition Subcases.
  • User defined Material sets now retain the correct input method.
  • Run name is now retained in the Evaluate context on import of Batch XML.
  • Modal superposition of solid elements showing N/A results is resolved.
  • User defined set now displays while importing batch XML via File – Import.

Known Issues

  • The combination of GERBER (mean stress correction model) with negative mean stress, will report zero or negative safety factor.
  • LoadMap does not allow import of modal participation file (PCH, H3D) if they have the same subcase name.
  • Bug in seam weld fatigue evaluation modelled with two row fillets. Results should be reviewed with caution.
  • Seam weld fatigue will show application errors when welds are modelled between 2D and 3D parts.
