Curvature Meshing

Curvature meshing attributes are extremely useful for capturing the curvature in the model during mesh generation.

In addition to setting Relative and Absolute mesh sizes, AcuConsole also allows you to specify Curvature meshing attributes. Curvature meshing attributes are extremely useful for capturing the curvature in the model during mesh generation. For example, consider a model edge that needs to be meshed.

Figure 1. Curvature Refinement

To resolve the model edge by the mesh edge of length h, the corresponding Curvature angle has to be provided. If the radius of curvature is 0.5m and the Curvature angle is 25 degrees, then the resulting mesh edge length is approximately 0.218m. If the model has surfaces with curvature singularities, for example the tip of a cone, Curvature angle specification by itself could result in an infinite mesh. Hence, AcuConsole provides a parameter to prevent this. Along with Curvature angle, you can specify Curvature mesh size factor, which computes the minimum value of mesh edge length (minimum h) to be used by the mesh generator. The minimum value of mesh edge length is computed by multiplying the Curvature mesh size factor with the corresponding mesh size (Relative or Absolute).
