Open Files

Open an existing model, session, plot, media or document file.

The type of files you are able to open depend on the active client.

The directory where file open/save dialogs are opened is saved from the previous successful dialog operation. For example, if you select a file in C:\my_files, the next time a file dialog is opened, it will open in C:\my_files. There is a single directory saved across all clients. There are a few exceptions:
  • If the dialog is associated to a filename entry box, the directory is taken from the path entered in the entry box, instead of using the saved directory.
  • Certain dialogs take you to a directory in the installation where the selection would commonly be made, instead of using the saved directory.
  • If the directory is not valid, the file dialog opens in the application start-in directory.
  1. Open an existing file in the following ways:

Options may be disabled, depending on the application you are using.

    • From the menu bar, click File > Open > <file type>.
    • From the Standard toolbar, click the drop-down next to the Open icon and select a file type from the list.
  2. In the Open dialog, navigate to your working directory and select the file to open.
The current file is cleared from the memory, and the file you selected opens.
Note: HyperWorks loads model files and solver input files with the solver interface they were saved in.

Access a list of the last eight sessions you opened from the menu bar by clicking File > Recent Sessions. Opening a recent session will automatically open that session using the settings previously identified.
