Adjust the View

Control the view and display of your media file in the modeling window.

From the View toolbar > Stretch Pixels, select Actual Resolution or Fit to Windows.

See Show, Hide, and Isolate Using the Show/Hide Tool to learn how to use the Show/Hide tool.

Settings

Set video preference and enhancement options.

From the View toolbar in MediaView, click to edit the video enhancement values for the video on the current window only. The same changes are applied to all instances of the same video in the session, but not the other videos.

Figure 1. Local Video Enhancements
  • In MediaView, select File > Preferences to apply settings, preferences, and video enhancements globally to the session.
  • Between the global and local settings, whichever is updated later takes precedence for a given MediaView window.
  • The global settings in Preferences are stored in hwsettings.xml, whereas local Media window settings are stored in the session/template files. As a result, when you start a new session, the values defined in Preferences and saved to hwsettings.xml are displayed. Restore your session or template file to start where you left off with settings applied to every video.
Note: The Annotation options Timestep, Frame number, Display file name, Location and font settings have been moved to the Notes panel and can be applied to MediaInfo Note.

Figure 2. Global Video Preferences and Enhancement Options
Blank out tolerance
If Blank out tolerance is selected, the video frame is only displayed if the difference between the time of the current frame and the time of the page is less than the tolerance.
If Blank out tolerance is not selected, the current video frame is always displayed.
Always convert video to MJPEG
If you are loading a video that is not in the supported MediaView video codecs, select this option to use an external video converter included in the standard HyperWorks installation. From the HyperWorks installation folder, change the values in the preference file to select this converter another way.
Note: In Linux-based systems, the video convert option is always active.
Video Enhancements
The following settings can be edited to enhance your video file. Enter a value directly into the data field or use the slider bar to change the value.
Note: Significant processing power is required to perform video enhancement operations such as brightness, contrast, gamma correction, and edge enhancement. Depending on the resolution of your video, you may notice a performance decrease when these enhancements are active. Of the video enhancement operations, Edge Enhancement is the most CPU-intensive and Gamma correction is the least CPU-intensive.
Brightness
Change the brightness of your media file.
Contrast
Adjust the contrast to see the difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the media file.
Gamma
Gamma is the degree of contrast in your media file. Enter a value or drag the slider to set the brightness of mid-tones without affecting highlights and shadows.
Hue
Hue is the separation between color shades and is one of the main properties of a color. It is represented by a number between -180 to +180 in MediaView, which switches the prominent colors in the video.
Saturation
Change the color saturation of your media file to amplify the difference between bright regions and dark regions. Saturation in negative values decreases this difference and moves toward a black and white picture.
Sharpness
Switch the picture sharpness between 0 and 2.
Edge Enhancements
Select Gaussian or Canny to find and display the edges enhancements in the media file.
