Enable or Disable Snaps

Enable and disable grid, transformation, point, and 3D snaps.

Snaps are used when translating, rotating, and scaling objects such as points, curves, surfaces, cameras, and lights. When various snap options are enabled, the object you are moving will automatically snap to the closest object of the selected snap type.

Snaps are useful in the Move tool to place objects in specific locations and rotate an object around another for optimal orientation in 3D space.

At the lower right of the application window, choose from the following options:
Option Description Note
Grid #1

Snap to the closest grid line on Grid #1. To change the grid settings:
  1. On the File menu, click the Preferences button.
  2. Under Category, select Inspire Render > Snaps.
Grid #2

Snap to the closest grid line on the Grid #2
Grid #3

Snap to the closest grid line on the Grid #3.
Grid #4

Snap to the closest grid line on the Grid #4.
Translate Snap to the closest point on the grid when translating. Click the Snaps icon to see a list of snap options. Enable any and all of the snap features to customize your design capabilities to your preference.
Rotate Snap to the closest point on the grid when rotating.
Scale Snap to the closest point on the grid when scaling.
Endpoints Snap to end points.
Midpoint Snap to midpoints.
Intersection Snap to the closest point where curves intersect.
Center Snap to the center of a circle, ellipse, or arc.
Curve Snap to the closest point on the nearest curve.
Tangent Snap to the tangent of the nearest curve.
Midaxis Snap an extruded PolyNURBS face to the axis of the underlying STL object. This helps you create a more accurate PolyNURBS version of the STL geometry. Only works with imported STL files in PolyNURBS mode. When importing the STL file, select the Import for rendering/reconstruction option.
Snap in 3D

Enables snapping on the view's disabled axis (the axis perpendicular to the view plane). Otherwise, snapping is enabled only in the active plane.
Snaps disabled Disables all of the snap options you have activated, allowing you to quickly enable/disable your preferred snap configuration without having to set each snap option individually.
