Exporting a Table to a New File

Monarch Classic supports exporting table data to a host of popular file formats. For most file formats, you can choose to create a new export file or add data to an existing file. The following instructions describe the procedure to use when exporting table data to a new file.

Steps:

  1. Go to Export Design.

  2. Select Add Export on the Export View ribbon. The Add Export dialog displays.

  3. Select a Table on the Source View selector.

  4. Specify the Export File Type on the Export File Type panel.

  5. Select Add. The Export Design window displays.

  6. On the Table View panel:

    • Enter the Export Name.

    • Select the Filter and Sort definitions that will be applied to the export.

  7. Define the output (values you need to enter will depend on your output type).

  8. Select Accept.

  9. To run your newly-created export, refer to Running Exports.

  10. To view the exported file, click on the export link provided in the Export Results panel. Doing so copies the path indicated, and you can use your mouse to paste this path into your file explorer to navigate to the location of the file.

Note:

If you apply a proportional-pitch font (e.g., Arial) to a table and then export it to a fixed-length text file, the table may not be exported exactly as it appears, i.e., some of the fields may be truncated in the text file. To maintain the length of fields when exporting to a text file, be sure to apply a fixed-pitch font (e.g., Courier) to the table before exporting it. Also, before exporting the table, if any of the table's fields are truncated (i.e., if they are not wide enough to fully display the text they contain), you may want to adjust their width so that they will be displayed in their entirety in the text file. To do so, right-click on a field, select Field Properties from the context menu, and on the General tab of the Field Properties dialog, specify the desired field width in the Display Width field.
