Creating a Symmetry Plane

Symmetry planes can be useful for limiting the analysis area of a part that is symmetrical, therefore reducing complexity and computation time.

You can specify symmetry planes on XZ, YZ, or XY planes. You can also define multiple symmetry planes to achieve the desired effect, e.g. XZ + YZ planes to create a quarter-sized model.

The Utility menu includes a macro to help you quickly define symmetry planes.

 

How Do I…

expand-green-10Create a symmetry plane
1.In the Setup group of the Utility menu, click Symmetry Plane… The Symmetry Plane dialog appears.
2.Select a plane of symmetry: XZ, YZ, or XY
3.Type a value for the tolerance, which is a distance by which symmetry nodes will be detected.
4.Click Create.
