Use the Materials tool to select materials for plates, pin, and shoulder.

Selecting Materials for Plates

Material selection has to be done before identifying the plates.

  1. From the Friction Stir Welding ribbon, click the Materials tool.
  2. In the Material Database dialog, to the right of , click the triangle and select Workpiece.


  3. Select the appropriate material for the analysis by right-clicking on the material and selecting Select from the context menu, or click .
    Note: Inspire Friction Stir Welding does not support dissimilar plates, so one material is adequate for the simulation. You can select more than one material, but only one is used.


    You can review the properties of a material in the tabs on the right side.


Selected workpiece materials will be available choices in the Plates tool.

Selecting Materials for Tools

  1. From the Friction Stir Welding ribbon, click the Materials tool.
  2. In the Material Database dialog, to the right of , click the triangle and select Tool_Material.


  3. Select the appropriate material for the analysis by right-clicking on the material and selecting Select from the context menu, or click .
Selected tool materials will be available choices in the Pin and Shoulder tools.
