Orienting the Model

Use the Orient tool to align the orientation of the plates.

Inspire Friction Stir Welding follows the convention that the pin moves in the negative Y direction and plates are oriented accordingly. Sometimes the imported CAD model/plates may be oriented in an arbitrary direction. In order to correct this and reorient the model, use the Orient tool.

  1. From the Friction Stir Welding ribbon, click the Orient tool.
  2. Select a top surface of the plate that will be pierced by the pin and will be touching the shoulder.
    Note: For T and Lap joints, the top surface is unique as highlighted below, whereas in Butt and Edge joints, the user can pick either surface ( 1 or 2).
