Automatically Adjusting Column Widths in Summary View

When you create a new summary, Monarch Classic sets width for each summary column according to the column width assigned to the table field used as input to the column. Some column widths may need to be adjusted to match the column’s data or to match the column name. You can manually adjust the column widths for all columns one at a time by clicking and dragging on the right edge of each column’s title or by double-clicking on each column to change the column width using its properties dialog. With each of these methods, you can specify exactly how wide each column should be, but both methods are tedious and don’t guarantee that you will select a proper column width to match the column’s data and title.

Fortunately, Monarch Classic provides an automatic method for assigning column widths that attempts to set the width appropriate to the data and to the column title.

The following steps apply while viewing a summary in Summary View.

Automatically setting column width to match the column’s data and title

Steps:

  1. Select the column by clicking anywhere on it. Note: You can also double-click on the right edge of a column’s title to automatically adjust its width.

  2. Select Autosize Columns on the Summary View ribbon.

Monarch Classic scans each cell within the selected column to determine its widest value. If the column title is wider than the widest value found, Monarch Classic sets the column wide enough for the title; otherwise Monarch Classic sets the column width to match the data.
