Sort Properties Window

Use the Sort Order Definition window to create a new sort definition or to edit an existing sort definition.

Steps:

  1. Select Sorts on the Table Design Ribbon.  The Sort Properties Window displays.

  2. Select a sort on the Sorts selector.

  3. Edit the sort's properties as needed.

Field

Description

Name box

Accepts a name for the sort order. If you do not enter a name, Monarch Classic will automatically assign a name using the name of the first field included in your sort order definition. If this name has already been used to name another sort order, you will be prompted for a name.

Sort Order names must adhere to the naming conventions used for long names.

Available Fields

Displays a list of fields from the table, including hidden fields.

Clear

Removes all fields from the Sort Fields list. The sort definition name remains unchanged.

Add >>

Moves the selected field from the Fields list to the Sort Fields list. To add a field to the sort definition, select the field from the Fields list, then choose Add.

<< Remove

Moves the selected field from the Sort Fields list to the Fields list. To remove a field from the sort definition, select the field from the Sort Fields list, then choose Remove.

Selected Fields

Displays the name and sort order (ascending or descending) of each field selected as part of the sort definition. The order of fields in this list determines their precedence in the sort.

To change the sort order or position of a field in the list, right-click on the field to display a context menu, then select the appropriate command from the context menu. You can also change the position of a field in the Sort Fields list by clicking and dragging the field up or down in the list.

Make this the current sort

Click this box to apply this sort and make it the current sort.
