Create a Coordinate System

You can establish a coordinate system based on the origin alone, or the origin and an axis point (X or Y axis). If only the origin point is set, then the global video X and Y axes directions will be used. If the origin and an axis point are set, the coordinate system will rotate to align itself with the axis point.
  1. Click the Origin collector to select the marker to be used as the origin.
  2. To establish a coordinate system based on both the origin and an axis point, click the X/Y Axis collector to select the marker to be used as the origin.
  3. Enter a Start Time and End Time for the the origin marker. These times show the start and end time steps in the video during which the marker is valid.
  4. Verify the Valid Time Range and the Animation Control Time Range
    Valid Time Range
The time range during which the defined tracking system is valid.  Since both markers must be valid in order for the system to be valid at a given time, the start time will always be the latter of the selected markers’ start times, and the end time will always be the earlier of the selected markers’ end times.
    Animation Control Time Range
The time range shown by the start and end times in the Animation Controls panel, and can be synced to the valid time range using Sync Range.
  5. Click Sync Range to update the start time and end times for the Animation Controls Time Range and those in the Animation Controls panel. Sync Range syncs the Animation Controls time range to the tracking system’s valid time range.
  6. After defining a tracking system, verify that Use Tracking System is enabled and automatically selected.
Note: When off (by default), marker tracing data is reported with the origin assumed to be in the lower left corner of the video.
  7. Select Pin video at origin to have the origin to remain fixed in place on the screen while animating, during the time frame when the origin is a valid tracing marker.
  8. Select the Global X axis, Global Y axis, and Axis labels options to select colors for each from the color palette.
Note: When tracking with respect to the user-defined system, the locations of all markers are reported in terms of the user-defined coordinate system.  The markers used as the basis for the coordinate system appear as static values of (0, 0) for the origin at CS point 1, and (0, <pixels or units>) or (<pixels or units>, 0) for the marker at CS point 2.
