Altair ultraFluidX 2021 Release Notes

Enhancements

Enhanced section cut output with support for high-frequency output and arbitrary surface normals
ultraFluidX 2021 introduces several enhancements for the section cut output option. In addition to the existing section cut output at the coarsest iterations, you can now request the output of section cuts in sub-iterations as well. The latest information that is available in the respective sub-iteration will be written out. Moreover, this feature now supports cut planes with arbitrary surface normals to enable non-axis-aligned section cuts. ultraFluidX 2021 also adds the option to request a triangle-based section cut output to enable compatibility with a broader range of post-processing tools.
Improved behavior of monitoring surfaces close to the wall
Monitoring surfaces can be used to post-process the ultraFluidX flow fields and are based on user-defined triangular surface meshes. Close to solid walls, triangles that are identified as solid are removed from the monitoring surface output. Instead of the former voxel-based identification of solid triangles, ultraFluidX 2021 introduces a more accurate identification based on the triangle centroid. This significantly improves the accuracy of the monitoring surface output close to solid walls.
Library updates and library additions (CUDA, OpenMPI and UCX)
ultraFluidX 2021 utilizes more recent versions of CUDA (version 11.1.1) and Open MPI (version 4.0.5), and additionally makes use of the Unified Communication X (UCX) framework (version 1.9.0). The update to CUDA 11.1.1 implies that CUDA drivers with version 450.80.02 or higher, or alternatively, a CUDA compatibility package, are required to run ultraFluidX 2021. Related error messages have been introduced in the solver.

Resolved Issues

  • Erroneous behavior of porous media that are aligned perpendicular to the global x-axis.
  • Missing data in OSM section cuts for certain configurations.
  • Potential deadlock of the simulation.
  • Incorrect time- and window-averaged quantities for surface probes.
  • Potential reproducibility issues for simulations using the turbulence generator.
