Group Objects

You can group objects to organize objects in a hierarchy or make it easier to select sets of objects that you can translate, rotate, or scale all at once.

  1. In the modeling window or Model Browser, select the items you want to group.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Press Ctrl+G.
    • Right-click in the Model Browser, and then select Group on the context menu.
Note: If you create a group when no objects are selected, an empty group will be created.
A new group with a folder icon is added to the bottom of the Model Browser. All currently selected objects are automatically moved to the new group.
  3. You can do the following:
    To Do this Note
    Rename a group
    1. Select the group in the Model Browser.
    2. Click the group name twice to enable text editing.
    3. Type a name, and then press Enter.

Add an object to a group Drag the object onto the group folder.
Remove an object from a group Expand the group folder, and then drag the object out of the group.
Ungroup objects Right-click the group folder, and then select Ungroup.
    Block/Unblock a group
    1. Select the group in the Model Browser.
    2. Right-click in the Model Browser, and then select Block Group on the context menu.

Now you can easily select and move the blocked group.

This is useful for selecting and moving a group containing a very large number of entities (for example, in an imported OBJ file).
    Unblock a group
    1. Select the group in the Model Browser.
    2. Right-click in the Model Browser, and then select Unblock Group on the context menu.
