tf2ss

Transforms transfer function parameters to state-space parameters.

Syntax

[A, B, C, D] = tf2ss(NUM, DEN)

Inputs

NUM
Numerator polynomial(s).
Type: double
Dimension: vector | matrix
DEN
Denominator polynomial.
Type: double
Dimension: vector | matrix

Outputs

A
The state matrix (n x n), where n is the number of states.
B
The input matrix (n x p), where p is the number of inputs.
C
The output matrix (q x n), where q is the number of outputs.
D
The direct transmission matrix (q x p).

Examples

SISO system case:
num = [1 4 2];
den = [0.1 0.8 0.1];
[A1, B1, C1, D1] = tf2ss(num, den)
A1 = [Matrix] 2 x 2
-8  -1
 1   0
B1 = [Matrix] 2 x 1
1
0
C1 = [Matrix] 1 x 2
-40  10
D1 = 10

Comments

The function transforms a transfer function model to an equivalent state-space representation in controller canonical form. The numerator coefficients are stored in NUM by row, with as many rows as there are outputs.

Transfer function coefficients are stored in descending powers of s or z.

tf2ss does not support multiple input systems. For MIMO support see tf2ssc.
