Activation Code Use

The simplest way to activate your license is through an Activation Code. This is the method used in most cases and you should have been supplied with an activation code by Altair or a reseller.

 

IMPORTANT: Activation codes for Monarch v15+ require an internet connection for periodic license verification.

  • For Monarch installations activated by online activation, the license check is performed every 14 days.

  • For Monarch installations activated by offline activation, the license check if performed every 30 days.

  • For Monarch installations on a virtual machine, the license check is performed every 24 hours.

 

When a license lease (i.e., the time between two verification instances) is about to expire and no internet connection is detected, the following message displays:

 

If you wish to verify your license, ensure that you are connected to the internet prior to clicking "Yes" on the dialog.

If your license expires and no internet connection is detected, the following message displays:

 

To continue using Monarch, simply connect to the internet to verify your license.

If an internet connection is not available, contact Altair Support via the support portal, chat, or phone.

 

Online activation

Steps:

  1. Select the Activate Altair Monarch 2020 using an Activation Code option in the Choose License Method window and then click Next.

     

    The Activate License window appears.

    Activation can be performed via the Internet or in “Offline Mode.” Offline activation can be performed either with the help of someone else in your organization who does have an internet connection or by contacting Altair Support.

  2. To activate the license via the Internet, fill out the Activation Code field by typing or pasting a copied activation code (click the Paste icon to do so) and then select the Activate button.

     

    Your product will be activated.

     

  3. Click Finish to save your license settings or Configure License to choose another licensing method.  

Specifying proxy server settings

The Settings button in the Activate License window launches the Activation Settings dialog. Use this dialog to specify connection settings if you connect to the Internet via a proxy server.

STEPS:

  1. In the left pane of the Activation Settings window, enter your proxy settings into the fields provided in the Proxy tab.

    The fields of the right pane are automatically populated with reference information regarding current license status, Computer ID, and version of the Filechck.dll file. The Installation ID is a unique identifier of the Altair product for which you will activate the license.

     

  2. You can copy the Computer ID value to the clipboard by clicking on the Copy icon next to the corresponding field.

    NOTE: The Daemon Proxy tab is only for use by Altair Support.

Specifying logging levels

Log files for Monarch License Manager are typically located in C:\ProgramData\Datawatch\Licensing\Nalpeiron\Datawatch Monarch 16. You can modify the amount of information found in log files via the Logging tab of the Activation Setting dialog.

STEPS:

  1. In the Activation Settings dialog, select the Logging tab.

     

  2. Use the drop-down to select a log level.

     

    Accepted values include:

    • Off

    • Errors only

    • Errors and warnings

    Note that you must restart the application for settings specified in the Activation Settings dialog to take into effect.

Offline activation

To activate the license when you are offline, enter your activation code into the field provided and then click the Offline Activation button in the Activate License window.

The Offline Activation window will appear. You will see basic steps to perform the procedure.

 

STEPS

  1. Open the activation website where your activation certificate will be generated. The resulting webpage contains fields in which you can enter your Activation Code (License Number), as shown below.

  2. In the Offline Activation screen, click the Generate button to create an activation certificate.

    Note: Offline Activation Certificates expire after 7 days, so please ensure that the offline activation process is completed as soon as possible. If a certificate has expired, generate a new one using the previous steps outlined.

  3. Copy and paste the activation certificate you generated into the Activation Certificate field of the activation website and then click Activate.

     

    A license is generated.

     

  4. Copy and paste the generated license into the License field provided in the Offline Activation screen (Step #6).

  5. Click the Activate button (Step 7) to activate the license.

    Your product is activated.
