Offset/Mirror

Offset or mirror a sketch curve.

Offset

Create a copy of a sketch curve (including splines) at a specified distance from the source curve.

  1. On the ribbon, click the Sketching tab.
  2. In the Offset/Mirror group, click the Offset icon.

  3. In the guide bar, choose a selection method:
    • Chain Selection (default): Automatically select all connected curves.
    • Single Selection: Select an individual curve.
  4. Select a sketch curve.
  5. To position the offset, move the mouse cursor. Then click to create the offset.

  6. Define the offset distance:
    • Drag the Offset arrow.
    • Enter a value.
  7. Optional: Edit the offset:
    To Do this
Add/remove entities from the selection Click the entity you want to add or remove.
    Change the offset distance
    • Drag the Offset arrow.
    • Enter a value.
Invert the offset In the guide bar, click Invert Offset

    .
Create an offset curve on each side of the source curve In the guide bar, click Symmetric

    .
Modify the shape This option only applies to open sketch curves such as a line.
    1. Select Symmetric.
    2. In the guide bar, select one of the following options:
      • Open : Leave the offset curve open.
      • Line Caps : Create a closed loop with straight ends.
      • Arc Caps : Create a closed loop with rounded ends.
Define the extension type In the Control Panel, select one of the following options:
    • Tangent Extensions: Extends the offset curves on either one or both ends tangentially.
    • Natural Extensions (default): Model the offset curves as they naturally occur.
    • Arc Caps: Round the sharp corners of the offset curve. The radius is always 1.0.
    • Line Caps: Use sharp corners for the offset curve.
Turn dimensions on/off By default, in the guide bar, Create Dimension is selected. Deselect it to turn it off.
  8. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Mirror

Create symmetric copies of selected sketch curves across a selected centerline. By default, there is a parent-child relationship between the source curves and their symmetric copies.

First, create the sketch curves you'd like to mirror and the centerline.
  1. On the ribbon, click the Sketching tab.
  2. In the Offset/Mirror group, click the Mirror icon.

  3. Select the entities to mirror, and then right-click to confirm or click Centerline in the guidebar.
  4. Select the centerline.
The entities are mirrored over to the other side of the centerline.
  5. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.
  6. Optional: By default, Symmetric constraints are applied to the original entities and their corresponding copies. So when you modify one side, the other side is modified as well. You can make desired entities independent by selecting the relevant symmetric constraints and pressing Delete.
