Altair® Monarch®

Overview: Filters

Filters provide a means of selecting specific records and ignoring the rest. When you apply a filter to a summary in Monarch Data Prep Studio, you can limit the available records to only those that match your filter specifications. Records that "pass" the filter criteria are displayed in the summary, and all other records are temporarily ignored, i.e., not  displayed.

Take for example a summary that lists the transactions of distributors of classic music recordings by media type (i.e., CD, DVD, LP, and SACD) and quantity sold.

Suppose that you are interested in transactions involving more than 10 media sales. You can use a filter to display the records for all sales for over 10 pieces of media. You can also use another filter to see only the records for a particular distributor, such as Fandangos Records. This filter would return only the records of Fandangos Records.

Monarch Data Prep Studio allows the creation of the following filter types:

  • Formula-based filters: These filters utilize an expression with a field, an operator, and a specific, set value. Records that meet the filter expression's criteria will be selected and displayed in the summary while all other records will be filtered out, i.e., will not  be displayed. See Creating Formula-Based Filters for more information.

  • Value-based filters: A value-based filter consists of one specified field along with a set of one or more specific field values. Records that contain the specified values in the selected field will be displayed while all other records will be filtered out. See Creating Value-Based Filters for more information.

  • Compound filters: These filters can comprise two or more formula-based filters, two or more value-based filters, two or more compound filters, or any combination of the three filter types. See Creating Compound Filters for more information.
