Altair® Monarch®

Wildcard

A special character that is used to match any single character, or any series of characters, in a text string. Wildcards may be used in filter and calculated field expressions and in summary definitions. Monarch Classic supports the following wildcard characters:

  • Asterisk (*): An asterisk matches any combination of characters. When an asterisk is used, Monarch Classic matches all characters from that point to the end of the string. For example, State="Co*" will match both Colorado and Connecticut.

  • Question mark (?): A question mark matches any single character. For example, Zipcode="0214?" matches 02147 and 02149.

Note: Wildcards cannot be used in numeric or date fields.
