Automatically Adjusting Column Widths in Table View

When you extract fields from a report file or import fields from an external database file, the column width for some fields may need to be adjusted to match the field’s data or to match the field’s name. You can manually adjust the column widths for all fields one at a time by clicking and dragging on the right edge of each field’s title or by double-clicking on each field to change the column width using the Field Properties window. With each of these methods, you can determine exactly how wide each field should be, but both methods are tedious and don’t guarantee that you will select a proper column width to match the field’s data and field name.

Fortunately, Monarch Classic provides an automatic method for assigning column widths that does attempt to set the width appropriate to the data and to the field name.

Using the Column Widths feature to automatically resize all fields in a table

Steps:

  1. In Table Click on the column you want to resize.

  2. Right-click on your mouse and then select Column Widths.

You can opt to resize column widths:

    • According to the width of the widest column label

    • According to the width of the widest data value

    • According to the width of a specific field

Automatically setting the column width for a field to match the field’s data and field name

Steps:

  1. In elect the field by clicking anywhere on the field.

  2. On the Table View Ribbon, select Autosize Columns.

Note: You can also double-click on the right edge of a field’s title to automatically adjust its column width.

Monarch Classic scans each cell within the selected field to determine the widest value found in the field. Monarch Classic scans 2500 field values, so it is possible, although rare, that Monarch Classic might guess incorrectly. If the field name is wider than the widest value found, Monarch Classic sets the column wide enough for the field name; otherwise Monarch Classic sets the column width to match the data.

Automatically setting the column width for multiple fields
