The Drawbead panel allows you to create and edit drawbead and lockbead sets.

From the Setup menu, select Drawbeads to display this panel.  You can define drawbead forces in two ways: restraining force per unit length or force level (high, medium and low).  The calculate function can also be used to compute the value of restraining force for different bead geometries.

Note:High is 80 percent , Medium is 50 percent  and Low is 20 percent  of necking condition.

If you are retrieving a file from earlier versions of HyperForm, make sure to update the drawbeads after reading the file.

How do I...

expand-green-10Create a drawbead/lockbead
1.Click drawbead: and enter a new name.
2.Pick a group of nodes by clicking in sequence along the drawbead location.
3.Click create.

The drawbead is created, and can be modified if necessary.  For quick drawbead creation, click the two end points of the approximate line along which the centerline of the bead is oriented.  For a curved surface, to locate the bead, HyperForm automatically projects the line between the two end nodes onto the neighboring mesh.  Nodes can be added or removed from the drawbead using the update function.

The lock subpanel should be used in conjunction with the above steps to create a lockbead condition. A lockbead and a drawbead cannot be created under the same drawbead name.

For a lockbead, HyperForm applies constraint on the nodes.  If you have a lockbead created using the end nodes only, the nodes in between are still free to move across the lockbead line.  In order to prevent this, HyperForm uses a tolerance (5 mm) to capture the nodes near the lockbead line.  Due to this tolerance, the lockbead sometimes appears zigzagged.

expand-green-10Update a drawbead/lockbead
1.Double-click drawbead: and select the drawbead to be modified.
2.Use the left mouse button to pick a node or nodes to add to the drawbead.
3.Use the right mouse button to pick a node or nodes to remove from the drawbead.
4.Click update.

If necessary, you can remove drawbead collectors that you have created.  However, the default collector, Drawbead_1, can be modified but not deleted.

The Lock subpanel should be used in conjunction with the above steps to update a lockbead condition.  A lockbead and a drawbead cannot be updated under the same drawbead name.

expand-green-10Remove a drawbead/lockbead
1.Double-click the drawbead: field and select the drawbead to be removed.
2.Click remove.

The drawbead is removed.

The lock subpanel should be used in conjunction with the above steps to remove a lockbead condition.

expand-green-10Calculate drawbead forces for a given geometry
1.Click drawbead: and select the drawbead.
2.Click calculate.
3.Click material: and select the current blank material.
4.Click drawbead height, drawbead radius and shoulder radius, and enter the values.
5.Click calculate.

The restraining force is the value of the force (per unit length) applied by the bead in the plane of the blank surface.  The closure force is the force (per unit length) required in the perpendicular direction to keep the drawbead closed.

If the geometry is such that a necking condition exists, the message, Material Locking Condition is displayed on the menu bar.

Note:The calculate function does not exchange any data with the create, update, or remove functions.
