Filtering Data

The Filter Node is used to create filters for a table in SmartWorks Analytics.

Prerequisite

  • An Execution Profile with an active session linked to the workflow

Steps

  1. Produce a Data Frame node by importing a CSV or database table.

  2. From the Data Preparation group of the Nodes tabbed page, drag and drop the Filter node from the Palette to the workflow canvas. The Filter node has one input socket and one output socket. Connect the output socket of the Data Frame node to the input socket of the Filter node.

  3. Open the Node Viewer. You can double-click on the node or use the Open option provided in the node menu. 

  4. The Configuration tab displays by default. Specify the following details to configure the Filter node.

    Input Properties

    The name of the table to be filtered. This field is automatically populated from the Data Frame node and cannot be edited.

    Output Properties

    The name to assign to the filtered table.

    OR, AND. Use these conditions to build your filter description

    Choose a Column

    A dropdown list that allows you to select columns to filter on.

     

  6. Select a column to filter using the Choose a Column dropdown list. Once selected, a dropdown list of filter operators displays. The operators that may be selected will vary according to the data type of the selected column. Use this list to create your filter statement.

    A values field displays.

     

  8. Click into this field to display a list of values with which to filter your table.

    Alternatively, you can enter a custom filter value into the field.

  10. Click Apply when you are finished building your filter statement to save it.

  11. If you wish to define another filter statement, select OR or AND from the Filter Settings panel and apply Steps 5-7 to create a second statement.

  12. The data preview is updated to show the results of your filter statement(s).

     

  13. Check the code that will be executed for your specified Filter configuration by saving your specifications and then clicking on the Code tab of the Filter Node Viewer. You can also use the tab that displays to refine the code further.

  15. Complete the Filter node configuration by clicking Save. To cancel your changes and return to the Workflow Canvas, press Discard or simply close the Filter Node Viewer. To execute the Filter, click the Run button.
