Wheel Arch

Create and edit front and rear car wheels, with an optional side panel, to efficiently create the basic shape of a car using PolyNURBS.

Create Car Wheels

Create the front and rear wheels of a car.

  1. On the ribbon, click the PolyNURBS tab.
  2. Click the Wheel Arch icon.

  3. Create the front wheel:
    1. Click to position the center of the front wheel.
    2. Move the cursor and Clickto create the front inner wheel lip
    3. Move the cursor and Click to create the front outer wheel lip
    4. Move the cursor and Clickto place the front outer arch
    5. To create the inner wheel arch, move the cursor to define the diameter, and then click.
    6. To create the outer wheel arch, move the cursor to define the diameter, and then click.
  4. Click to position the center of the rear wheel.
    By default, a rear wheel, which is the same size as the front wheel, and a side panel are created.

  6. Right-click, and then mouse through the check mark to exit.

Edit the Car Wheels

Edit the wheels and the side panel.

  1. Edit the front wheel:
    To Do this
    Reposition the center
    • Drag the Front Wheel Center.
    • Click the Front Wheel Center, and then enter X, Y, and Z coordinates.
    Change the rim diameter
    • Drag the Front Rim Diameter.
    • Click the Front Rim Diameter, and then enter a value.
    Change the inner wheel arch diameter
    • Drag the Front Outer Wheel Arch Diameter.
    • Click the Front Outer Wheel Arch Diameter, and then enter a value.
    Change the outer wheel arch diameter
    • Drag the Front Outer Wheel Arch Diameter.
    • Click the Front Outer Wheel Arch Diameter, and then enter a value.
    Change the rotation angle In the Control Panel, enter a value between 90 and 270 degrees for the Front Wheel Arch Rotation.
    Change the number of radial subdivisions In the Control Panel, enter the number of Radial Subdivisions. The default value is 1.
    Change the number of angular subdivisions In the Control Panel, enter the number of Angular Subdivisions. The default value is 8.
  2. Edit the rear wheel:
    To Do this
    Reposition the center
    • Drag the Rear Wheel Center.
    • Click the Rear Wheel Center, and then enter X, Y, and Z coordinates.
    Change the rim diameter
    • Drag the Rear Rim Diameter.
    • Click the Rear Rim Diameter, and then enter a value.
    Change the inner wheel arch diameter
    • Drag the Rear Outer Wheel Arch Diameter.
    • Click the Rear Outer Wheel Arch Diameter, and then enter a value.
    Change the outer wheel arch diameter
    • Drag the Rear Outer Wheel Arch Diameter.
    • Click the Rear Outer Wheel Arch Diameter, and then enter a value.
    Change the rotation angle In the Control Panel, enter a value between 90 and 270 degrees for the Rear Wheel Arch Rotation.
    Change the number of radial subdivisions In the Control Panel, enter the number of Radial Subdivisions. The default value is 8.
    Change the number of angular subdivisions In the Control Panel, enter the number of Angular Subdivisions. The default value is 1.
  3. Change the distance between the centers of the front and rear wheels:
    • Type a Distance.
    • Drag the Front Wheel Center or Rear Wheel Center.
  4. Edit the side panel:
    To Do this
    Include/remove the side panel In the Control Panel, select/deselect Side Panel.
    Change the number of subdivisions In the Control Panel, enter the number of Panel Subdivisions.
  5. Right-click, and then mouse through the check mark to exit.
