Adding a Text Label
You can add labels or explanatory text to a Dashboard using a Text Box.
Adding a Text Label
-
Draw a rectangle on the dashboard canvas to display the Parts dialog.
-
Click the Text Label
icon in the General section of the Parts dialog.
The Text Label part is displayed in the Dashboard canvas. By default, it appears empty with a transparent background except for the words Click to enter text.
Selecting the Text Label displays the handles for resizing.
-
Click on the Text Label to make it editable.
-
Type the new text.
-
Click on a location outside the Text Label to complete the operation.
-
To modify the style of the text, click Settings. Make the necessary changes in the Text Label Settings dialog:
-
-
Font - Click Change to display the Font dialog where you can set the Font Type, Style, Size, and Script.
-
-
-
Foreground - Click Change to display the Color dialog and set the Foreground color.
-
Background - Click Change to display the Color dialog and set the Background color.
-
You can also opt to revert to the default foreground and background colors by clicking Restore Defaults.
Note that a transparent background will be very useful with the Web Client supporting correct rendering of overlapping dashboard parts. This allows placing of Text Labels to any preferred location in the dashboard.
-
-
Text source -whether Manual Text or From Data Table where you can also set the format of the text.
-
Horizontal Alignment – Left, Center, or Right
-
Vertical Alignments – Top, Center, or Bottom
-
Enable Vertical Scroll Bar - Check the box to enable vertical scrolling through a long text label
-
You can parameterize Text Labels in the same way as Visualization Titles. Simply add the parameter name within curly brackets, {Company}.
Text labels can also be populated from a source data table, as implied through the settings panel above.
To associate the text box with a data column, drag the column to the text label.
A preview of the data will be shown.
Dropping the column on the text label, causes every row to be written as a new line within the text label, and introduces vertical scroll bars if necessary.
